Course Description

Community and Society

This course is for students who have completed an entry level Social Studies course... and have a passion for learning about the fair treatment of people and the conservation of our Earth. You will learn why human rights are important; what rights you have; why some issues are controversial; how climate change is affecting the Earth. Extension skills: A focus on the progression to the NCEA Social Sciences by learning how to use Social Studies concepts, viewing big issues through multiple perspectives, and applying learning across different contexts. Classes will involve looking at controversial issues in the past, present and thinking about the future; structured debates as a recurring learning activity; inquiry learning into an issue that individual students are curious about; social and environmental action.
