Course Description

This course aims to build student knowledge in the four language strands of tuhituhi, pānui, kōrero & whakarongo.
The main focus of the course content is around strengthening skills in: - Reading - Writing - Speaking - Listening.
Success in the Level 1 Te Reo Maori course can provide students with a step toward completing NCEA Level 1 and entry to NCEA Level 2 Te Reo Maori. Those who complete the Panui & Tuhituhi standards give themselves the chance to gain the compulsory 10 credits required for Literacy Level 1.
You will need a chromebook for this class.
Course Overview
Term 1
Term 1 learning will be based around whakawhanaungatanga and getting to know each other.
The foci for this term will be to complete a kōrero, whakarongo and a tuhinga task.
Term 2
Term 2 learning will be based around tōku ao
The foci for this term will be to complete a kōrero, whakarongo and a tuhinga task.
Term 3
Term 3 learning will continue to be about toku ao
The foci for this term will be to prepare for external exams as well as pānui and tuhinga tasks
Term 4
Term 4 is all about revision and preparation for external exams.
This is also the opportunity to complete any outstanding tasks.
Recommended Prior Learning
Te Hau Raki Te Reo Māori Level 1 builds on the year 9 and 10 Te Reo Maori programme. Students need to be reading, writing, listening and speaking at Level 4 of Te Aho Arataki I Te Marau (TAAM) or proficient in Te Reo Māori.
Students who have completed Taipari junior program are encouraged to enrol in this course. If you are highly proficient in Te Reo Māori you are also welcomed to join this class

Stationery Requirements: 2 x refill, box of blue or black pens or own device.
