Teacher in Charge: Mrs C. Newson
In this course we will explore a variety of topics relating to measurement and geometry within the context of being outside and being active. Topics could include evaluating shelters, escape routes, stadium design, tournament planning, strategic game design. This course will appeal to students who are interested in the outdoors, survival, and sports. Students who enjoy being active and are interested in learning in these contexts will enjoy this course. This is not an Outdoor Ed or PE course though; it’s a Maths course that uses well-known situations as well as the extraordinary, relating to the outdoors. Think Bear Grylls vs Maths, or Survivor Maths Island, or any sport World Cup. Occasionally our tasks will be fixed around a set scenario, but for the rest of the time you will have choice around the details that you are working with. This is a Mathematics course with a focus on Measurement and Geometry.
