English - Law and Lawlessness

This course is for students who enjoy exploring both true and fictional stories focused on criminals and the crimes they commit.  You will look at some real life crime investigations and give your own opinion in writing of what you thought of the evidence given.  You will also get the chance to say whether you believe the right person has been convicted of the crime and if you believe justice was served. 

Classes will also involve the study of film that follows the stories of villains and their crimes. During this study you will analyse how directors have used film techniques to convey the tension involved and convince the audience of who is in the wrong.  The course will also involve looking at some of the most famous bad guy characters. You will apply this learning to create your own villain and write your own short story.

All junior English courses are based around general themes so that you can choose a theme or genre of text that interests you, and through this genre, learn and develop your English skills. All courses teach how to write a literary essay and to analyse texts such as film, poetry and novels. This also involves you learning to identify, analyse and to use, visual and verbal language techniques. However, in this course, you will do this through texts that tell stories about the bad guys of literature and the real world.
