English - Imagining Tomorrow

ENGIMAGT
Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs D. Northern.

This course is for students who enjoy the world of technology and futuristic or dystopian worlds.

You will learn about the way futuristic texts are created using visual and verbal language techniques and how these fictional characters can become relatable to us.  You will also learn how this genre of texts are created to warn society of issues that could harm us.

Classes will involve exploring a range of literature:  apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic literature, dystopian literature, science fiction, texts related to artificial intelligence and gaming.

There will be opportunities to study and analyse a range of written and visual texts that will develop your thinking and writing skills. Learning will also involve creating your own texts in this genre.

All junior English courses are based around general themes so that you can choose a theme or genre of text that interests you, and through this genre, learn and develop your English skills. All courses  teach how to write a literary essay and to analyse texts such as film, poetry and novels. This also involves you learning to identify, analyse and to use, visual and verbal language techniques.  However, in this course, you will do this through texts with a  dystopian or futuristic theme.
