Teacher in Charge: Mrs D. Northern.
This course is for students who enjoy viewing and reading about characters living in other worlds who may have special abilities or are sent on a quest.
You will learn about the ways dystopian, fantasy or science-fiction worlds are developed to make them real to their audience; then, how to create your own.
Classes will involve the study of texts set in 'other worlds' and the characters who live in them. Lessons will look at the techniques used by writers and directors to immerse us to the extent that we feel fear and relief on behalf of the characters we engage with. Through this study you will learn the skills to write about this analysis, as well as create your own narratives and present them through a range of different options.
All junior English courses are based around general themes so that you can choose a theme or genre of text that interests you, and through this genre, learn and develop your English skills. All courses teach how to write a literary essay and to analyse texts such as film, poetry and novels. This also involves you learning to identify, analyse and to use, visual and verbal language techniques. However, in this course, you will do this through texts that tell stories of characters in other fictional worlds.
Standards shown on courses are only an indication and not all may be offered at the time of study.
