English - Days of Our Lives

ENGDAYS
Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs D. Northern.

This course is for students who enjoy viewing and reading about real people in real life situations.  It is also for students who enjoy looking into the past to see how events can have an impact on our current lives.

You will learn about the way myths and legends of our ancestors and our own cultural background can shape who we are and what we value.  Classes will involve the exploration of stories from the past that are written to teach societal values as well as tales of courage and characters who have faced challenges that call on them to be strong.

You will apply your learning to writing and presenting your own stories, either from your own life or a person of significance to you.

All junior English courses are based around general themes so that you can choose a theme or genre of text that interests you, and through this genre, learn and develop your English skills. All courses  teach how to write a literary essay and to analyse texts such as film, poetry and novels. This also involves you learning to identify, analyse and to use, visual and verbal language techniques.  However, in this course, you will do this through texts that tell stories of real people or legends and myths from our historical past.
