Course Description

In this English course, students will explore how extremes of human failings can result in a range of sometimes worrying outcomes, as presented through a range of literature.  This could be through either classic or contemporary texts. As a result of this exploration, students will use the new understandings to both complete evaluative tasks, and create their own pieces of writing (this is a six credit Writing Portfolio). Learning in this English course will be explored through both making meaning of a range of texts, as well as creating meaning to express new ideas in a range of forms (e.g. writing, oral presentations, static images etc).

Students who take Far from Perfect will most likely be interested in how society is affected by human failings such as obsession, jealousy, ambition and other extremes of emotion, and will be interested in texts (books, films, short stories etc) that explore these ideas. 

Successful completion of this Level Two English course can lead on to any Level Three English course in 2022.

In this course a range of standards, internal and external, will be offered, and what is offered will be personalised where appropriate to meet the interests and needs of individual students. There will be a minimum of 18 credits on offer, and at least 4 credits will be from an externally assessed standard. Potential standards that will be focused on in this course are listed.

Recommended Prior Learning

The recommended prior learning to take this course in 2021 is to have achieved a minimum of three Level One English Achievement Standards, and the student must have attempted at least one externally assessed Level One English standard. Entry with other than this recommended prior learning will be at the HOD English discretion - the student must see the HOD English to discuss entry without having completed this prior learning.
