English - Law and Lawlessness

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs D. Northern.

This course is for students who enjoy exploring both true and fictional stories focused on criminals and the crimes they commit.  You will learn more about characterisation and why texts have 'bad guys' in them through the study of texts, as well as how to develop your own character and write a narrative.

Classes will involve an investigation into the characters of villains as well as the ways fictional texts are constructed to build to a thrilling climax. It will also involve looking at some of the most famous bad guy characters, fictional as well as some from real life.  You will apply this learning to create your own villain and situation and may choose to present it in writing or through a range of other options.

All junior English courses are based around general themes so that you can choose a theme or genre of text that interests you, and through this genre, learn and develop your English skills. All courses teach how to write a literary essay and to analyse texts such as film, poetry and novels. This also involves you learning to identify, analyse and to use, visual and verbal language techniques.  However, in this course, you will do this through texts that tell stories about the bad guys of literature and the real world.
