NCEA Level 2 English for Literacy Development

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs D. Northern.

This course is aimed at students who may have either;  not completed a full year of Level One or Two English for a variety of reasons, or who may have struggled in some way to complete the assessments.  It is expected that this course may include a mixture of both Year 12 and Year 13 students.  This course will support the completion of the University Entrance Literacy Standards, either for Tertiary study or just to improve literacy for future learning.

Students will still study and analyse text and further develop writing skills to plan, write and present work for a range of purposes and audiences.  This class will include a range of internal assessments, as well as an external assessment for those who are capable of it. This range will be personalised where appropriate to meet the interests and needs of individual students.

While it is possible to complete the full amount of credits for University Entrance Literacy in internal assessments, some students may choose to sit an external assessment for additional credits.  Students will be supported to complete at least 14 credits in internal assessments and if they choose, prepare for an external exam.  Each external exam is worth four credits.

The achievement standards attached to this course below are an indication of some of the internally and externally assessed standards you will be offered in this course.
