English - All the World's a Stage
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mrs D. Northern.
This course is for students who enjoy the creative arts and exploring texts that involve characters within the world of the arts. You will learn about the way the creative arts are used to communicate stories that both entertain and convey ideas to our society.
Classes will involve the study of texts such as plays, song lyrics, musicals and mixtures of all of these. Through a range of different genres of texts you will explore the creative process and how writers, directors and performers express ideas and convey them to audiences. You will also learn how the creative arts impact lives from a cultural and societal perspective; for instance, looking at songs that tell a political story and why these can be a powerful tool for change. You will also apply your learning to the development of your own text which may be presented through song, movie or a written format.
All junior English courses are based around general themes so that you can choose a theme or genre of text that interests you, and through this genre, learn and develop your English skills. All courses teach how to write a literary essay and to analyse texts such as film, poetry and novels. This also involves you learning to identify, analyse and to use, visual and verbal language techniques. However, in this course, you will do this through texts that tell stories through the arts such as music, dance, the theatre and visual language.
