NCEA Level 2 English

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs D. Northern.

The  Level Two English courses are suitable for students who have completed a Level One English course.  You will read and study texts with more complexity, using skills of analysis learned in earlier years. All classes will also further develop your ability to plan, write and present your own work for a range of purposes and audiences. Some of these finished pieces may be used for assessment and others form the basis of preparation for external exams.

All Level Two English courses offer the full amount of credits and assessments required for a student to complete University Entrance (UE) Literacy.  These particular requirements are five reading and five writing credits. Students who may be thinking about future tertiary study should be thinking about English at Level Two to help  improve their chances of success in tertiary study. Auckland University currently requires 17 credits specifically, in Level Two or Three English. Students who intend to continue with further study, should strongly consider continuing at Level Three.

Every course will include both a range of internal assessments, as well as external assessments. This range will be personalised where appropriate to meet the interests and needs of individual students.  Most students will easily complete at least 14 credits in internal assessments and be prepared for two of their choice of three, of the external exams.  External exams are each worth four credits.  This means the average student should complete 22 credits.  For more motivated students, more assessments are available.
