NCEA Level 2 Physics

Course Description

Teacher in Charge:

Why study physics?

Level 2 Physics builds on and extends the concepts introduced in Level 1 Science. Physics is the study of the nature and properties of matter, forces, and energy. From the smallest subatomic particle to the infinite universe. You will learn aspects of it all.

More importantly, you will be developing lifelong skills in problem-solving and critical thinking. Physics is often described as applied mathematics, you will see how the algebra and number skills you learn have a real-world application through formulae and relationships. A key part of your learning will be practical based, conducting and critiquing investigations is what a physicist does.

What will I learn?

Topics include a practical component with graphical analysis; Light and Waves; Classical Mechanics; Electricity and Electromagnetism, and an introduction to Atomic and Nuclear Physics.
