NCEA Level 2 Mathematics - Advanced

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs C. Newson

You will learn a range of topics developing on work learned in 11MATA, leading on to Level 3 Calculus, Statistics or Mathematics. If you have not taken 11MATA you must have approval from Mrs Newson (Head of Mathematics) to take this course. If you did not attempt the external standards from 11MATA you will also need approval to take this course. 

This course has a strong focus on Algebra and introduces the Mathematics of change - Calculus, for the first time. Students taking this path will enjoy problem solving and have methodical work habits. This course is well-placed to support students who are looking for future pathways in STEM subjects.

Recommended Prior Learning

16 Credits from 11MATA, including at least one merit grade. Students not meeting this should gain the support of their Level 1 Mathematics teacher before choosing this option.  Students will demonstrate their preparedness for learning by attempting the external examination from 11MATA in 2021.

Stationery Requirements: 2 x 1E5 or 1J5, Graphics calculator (Casio 9750GII - please seek advice from the mathematics department before purchase)
