NCEA Level 2 Geography

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs A. McMinn.

  The course revolves around topical issues such as environmental issues, poverty and how the landscape is shaped by natural processes and the impacts that this has on people.  In light of this students will have the opportunity to  explore a variety of topics which  could include:

  •  Human Trafficking
  • Dirty Dairying and the contentious issues that this causes in NZ.
  • Learn cool Geography skills such as mapping, cross sections and a whole lot more.
  • The Covid Pandemic from a global and New Zealand perspective.
  • Explore how urban areas in New Zealand are developed and how this influences where people live.
  • Understand how the Taupo Volcanic Zone was formed and how people interact with this important landscape in New Zealand.

Assessments revolve around field work as described below:

  • Three day trip to complete the Tongariro Crossing.
  • An analysis of dirty dairying and balancing environmental and economic needs.
  • Explore the vegetation zones of National Park for our research component of the course.

The Geography course at Level 2 seeks to balance practical skills while maintaining a high academic standard.

Geography is an important part of the tourist industry and provides a useful knowledge of the world around us.
