NCEA Level 2 Art Design - Capturing Creativity

Course Description

Demonstrate your creativity through this course.  You will select a brief and explore design ideas and solutions to fulfill the underlying intentions of the brief.  You will look to gain inspiration from a range of sources and designers and explore a range of media including digital and traditional forms to help aid the creative process.

You will learn to use Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to design publicity for a project, event or business of your choice.  You will explore various elements of design which include typography, illustration, image-making, product branding, website design, user experience design, and animation.  By the end of the course you will be able to understand how to visually communicate your ideas to a wider audience.  There is now an option to submit your work as a digital portfolio for the external standard for those interested in animation or time-based projects.

Recommended Prior Learning

It is helpful to have studied Visual Art or Design/Photography at Level 1.

Pathway

This leads to further study in Visual Communication Design (Graphic Design, Advertising, Animation, and Illustration), Web Design, and UX Design. Art Design can be used in the Fine Arts, Photography, Art History, Architecture, Fashion and Moving Image fields in tertiary study as well.
