Course Description

You will develop knowledge of drama with your teacher. You will select four Achievement/Unit Standards to complete during the academic year.
Course Overview
Term 1
Developing understanding of drama elements, techniques and conventions
Students will learn the elements, techniques and conventions needed to produce a drama performance and then apply this knowledge in a dramatic context.
Term 2
Developing understanding of the features of a Theatre form
Students will learn about the features of the Commedia Dell'Arte theatre form and apply this understanding in a Commedia Dell'Arte scenario. Students will also construct a Commedia Dell'Arte mask to represent a stock character.
Students will also use this understanding to support their preparation for the external examination.
Term 3
Demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of Commedia Dell'Arte
Students will expand on their knowledge and understanding of Commedia Dell'Arte as they prepare to explain the features of this theatre form.
Perform a scripted production
Students will also prepare a scripted production that they will perform to an audience.
Term 4
Perform a scripted production
Students will perform their scripted production to an audience. Students will also learn how to apply theatre make up and use this knowledge to design the makeup for their character and apply it for performances.
Demonstrate understanding of features of Commedia Dell'Arte
Students will continue to prepare for the external examination, where they will share their knowledge and understanding of Commedia Dell'Arte.
Recommended Prior Learning
Completed the Year 10 Performance Arts course. Alternatively your place in this class will need to be approved by the Teacher in Charge.
