NCEA Level 1 Mahi Toi
Course Description
Mahi Toi is a proud celebration of Aotearoa’s multicultural identity. This exciting NCEA Level One Visual Art course is an immersive exploration of mana atua (spiritual), mana whenua (land), mana tupuna (ancestry) and te mana tangata (character). Students will learn how to use natural materials to preserve and pass down Māori knowledge, following the values, protocols and traditions of te Ao Māori. Guest speakers and field trips will be a major component of research in this course.
Recommended Prior Learning
Having taken previously Art Beat or one of the other Visual Art junior courses would be useful.
Assessment Information
This is a portfolio subject so work will be collected during the year and assessments will happen at the end of Term 2 and `beginning of Term 4. This programme is highly individualised and therefore, students in consultation with their teacher will, create there own individual learning plan, with students looking to gain between 15 credits and 20 credits.Pathway Tags
