Course Description

You will develop knowledge of drama with your teacher.  You will select four Achievement/Unit Standards to complete during the academic year.

Course Overview

Term 1
AS 91940 - 5 credits - Explore the function of Theatre Aotearoa.

Through exploration and discussion of Theatre Aotearoa students will reflect on how the performance promotes the use of drama to heal, educate, entertain, or transform society and reflect on its relationship to communities today.

Term 2
AS91942 - 5 credits - Use drama techniques to perform a scripted role for an audience

Through this learning students will explore and become confident in the use of drama techniques to perform a scripted role for an audience.

Term 3
AS91941 - 5 credits - Participate in creative strategies to create a drama

Creative strategies are practices and processes that include communication and collaboration between creators and performers, where ideas can be safely voiced and negotiated in order to achieve a shared vision in devising (creating) a drama, as well as the selection of elements, conventions, and technologies to structure a drama for performance.

Term 4
AS91943 - 5 credits - Respond to a drama performance

Through this learning students will view a drama performance and examine and explain the effect of drama components used to communicate the key message of the drama performance.

Recommended Prior Learning

Completed the Junior Drama course.  Alternatively your place in this class will need to be approved by the Teacher in Charge.
